Digital X-Rays
Benefits of Digital X-Rays
Dental X-rays, also known as radiographs, play an important role in identifying and evaluating oral health conditions. At Steele Family Orthodontics, we use advanced digital X-ray technology, which significantly reduces radiation exposure compared to traditional X-rays. For added safety, lead body aprons and protective shields are routinely used to ensure the X-ray beam is limited only to the area being examined.
The X-rays used for orthodontic evaluations differ from those taken during routine dental visits. Orthodontic panoramic and cephalometric X-rays provide specialized information that allows our orthodontist to evaluate tooth position, jaw relationships, and facial growth patterns.
Orthodontic panoramic and cephalometric X-rays are used for:
- Accurate diagnosis
- Customized treatment planning
- Distinguishing between tooth misalignment and jaw discrepancies
- Identifying missing or extra teeth
- Assessing root development
- Evaluating bone levels
- Monitoring facial and jaw growth
Orthodontic X-rays are not intended to detect cavities. For this reason, maintaining regular dental visits with your general dentist every six months remains an essential part of your overall oral health care.
The benefits of digital X-rays far outweigh the minimal risks, and this technology allows us to provide precise, safe, and effective orthodontic treatment.
